Exhibitions and Mini Exhibitions

At the end of the Primary Years Programme children are asked to plan and carry out an Exhibition. This Exhibition has a number of key purposes:

  • For students to engage in an in-depth, collaborative inquiry
  • To provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate independence and responsibility for their own learning
  • To provide students with an opportunity to explore multiple perspectives
  • For students to synthesize and apply their learning of previous years and to reflect upon their journey through the PYP
  • To provide an authentic process for assessing student understanding
  • To demonstrate how students can take action as a result of their learning
  • To unite the students, teachers, parents and other members of the school community in a collaborative experience that incorporates the essential elements of the PYP
  • To celebrate the transition of learners from primary to Bach

At the Anglo the PYP Exhibition takes place in fourth grade. In preparation for this, children from first to third grades are asked to plan and take part in what we call a Mini - Exhibition. Here you can find some information on what is going on towards the preparation of those.

Children from 4th have been reflecting about FASAC exchanges.

FASAC Exchange Visit #4

I think that we have developed some attitudes from these FASAC visits. For example: We have become more tolerant and respectful with our partners and with our child. We have also been enthusiastic and we have shown integrity whilst playing and sharing time with them. I have learned many things during these visits. For example: I learnt how to share time with little kids, also what they like to do and play, what differences there are between us an them and how to take care of little kids.

I think that we applied the knowledge skills, thinking skills and team group skills during the lasts visits. Why? Knowledge skills because if you are going to take care of somebody, especially when they are smaller than you (like them), you need to know what they like to do, play, eat and all of that. Thinking skills because we needed to think when planning what we were going to give them to eat and on what things we were going to do. Finally team group skills because we needed to agree on what things to bring like food or toys. We have shown almost all of the concepts but some more than others. The main ones were “Change” and “Causation”. Change because we have changed things in ourselves. For example: We have changed our point of view about the FASAC kids. We have also cared much about them and when they leave we feel sad, when they come we feel happy and when they are about to come we feel anxious. Causation because we have built some kind of relationships with them. Also because we can see their reaction when we tell them something. I have taken some action during these visits. I had pledged to bring balls and books for them to play with and I brought them. I also promised to bring the snack and the “Huevito Kinder” and I brought it. That was my little part and what I did for them.

This experience has made me grow as a person and has made me more aware of the reality of many children in Colombia.

FASAC Reflection # 4

Today I felt more comfortable with the kid.
I think the two concepts I worked on during this exchange: Causation because we did it as we needed too. We treated them with respect and they needed love. We were Caring as well.
We took action when we gave them healthy food and candies, also the little surprises for them to enjoy. I also think we demonstrated change because for each FASAC visit we did something different. We also changed our attitude towards them. We became more caring with them.
The skills were: My abilities as a nany because I went where she went. I went with her to the bathroom, I held her so that was another one. I also used my creativity skills when we made posters. I drew and mixed colours.

Atittudes and Atttributes:
Tolerance- I respected my girl.
Respect- I respected what she had and where she wanted to go.
Integrity- I treated them like a person should be treated.
Confidence- I had confidence in me and my girl.
Committed- I was dedicated to help her.
Cooperation- I helped her and my friends when they needed
Appreciation- I valued what I have and they didn´t, and reflected about that.
Curiosity- I was interested in what FASAC did.
Empathy- The relationships were easy going.
Creativity- I tried to imagine cool things to do for them to enjoy.
Ethusiasm- I was excited with these kids.
Caring- I was interested in making sure they had a good time.
Reflective- I made a reflection on what I haved and what they don´t have.
Communicator- I told my mum and dad about my experience.
Open- Minded- I shared my questions with the FASAC teacher.
Inquirer- I investigated on what children of that age liked to do.

I AM VERY SAD BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT COMING BACK THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!!

First Grade´s Christmas Market

In first grade children have a special learning experience that is called "Christmas Market ". This Christmas Market is the final assessment of the Money and Markets Unit of Inquiry.Through this unit of inquiry they are able to learn about different currencies around the world. They learn to calculate how much money they need to make a product and then sell it during the market. They create their own Anglo currency, plan and make Christmas crafts or goods. With their profits children are able to decide what to do with the money. In previous years they have decidedto donate some of the money for fasac and to keep the rest for a special activity or to buy something for the level. For example, last year children decided to buy a DVD for the whole level.

This is one the reflections made by Paula Cadena who is now in second grade about this unit.

The Christmas Market

Last year in the Christmas Market I learned to count British Money. I enjoyed making Christmas Ornaments with recycling materials. The best part was selling all the things to the parents. At the end we made lots of money, we donated half of it to FASAC and with the other half we bought a TV for first grade.
