The IB Diploma at Colegio Anglo Colombiano

Students in Grades 10 and 11 follow the IB Diploma program, an internationally recognized two-year course of study. The Colegio Anglo Colombiano has offered the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme since 1980. All courses are college preparatory. Students following the IB Diploma will have 3 subjects at IB Higher Level with an intensity of 5 hours per cycle and 3 at Standard Level with an intensity of 4 hours per cycle. Approximately 80% of the seniors register for the IB Diploma and the rest prepare for obtaining the compulsory IB English A1 or A2 certificate along with any other subject of their choice. Furthermore, the syllabus has been complemented in order to meet with the requirements of the Colombian system of secondary school education and to obtain optimum results on the national college entrance exam, the ICFES.

All juniors and seniors (grades 10 and 11) must complete 36 hours of lessons in a cycle of six days as follows:
• Six IB courses (Any combination of 3 higher and 3 standard level courses) 27 hours
• TOK Theory of Knowledge 2 hours
• Colombian and Latin American Studies 3 hours
• Physical Education 3 hours
• Electives (ICFES, Publications, Model United Nations) 1 hour

In order to fulfill the IB Diploma CAS(Creativity, Action and Social) and Colombian Ministry of Education requirement for Social Service, students participate in a structured programme of projects in education, communication, recreation, sports, and prevention of psychoactive substance abuse in the poverty belts of Bogota.

Such a wealth of choice allows students to select courses that meet their needs and interests, as well as maintaining breadth in their study.
